Philip Cole grew up in the city of San Fransico, with little money due to an unfortunate turn in economics. His mother Nora Cole, had died from an Ischemic stroke after Philp's 8th birthday. As for his father, Donnie Cole, a hard-working construction worker; shortly became an unstable alcoholic with anger issues. 

 

Philip started making bad decisions and terrible mistakes that were very foolish. Shoplifting, burglary, fighting, and assault. He dropped out of school at the age of 17, convicted for unreasonable crimes, but was not placed in any prison due to prison overcrowding. However, Philip received help from a caring childhood friend who then helped Philip change his life to make good deeds. 

 

It was hard finding a job after being arrested and mainly because most jobs were either going out of business or were just not hiring. Luckily, his father gave him a steady job as a construction worker. Due to his father drinking so much it was only two weeks later he died from liver cancer. Philips's father's death, made him feel angry and caused him to act out by drinking every night until in a short period he got caught in a bar fight suddenly at the same time he loses an arm by a train.

 

For the past six weeks, he was taken cared for by Mellisa Calvang, his future wife. She also was a part-time nurse at the Evergreen General Hospital. Although Philip wasn't only just cared for at the hospital, he was additionally studied to be the perfect weapon to a secret affiliation. When he had recovered from his accident he and Mellisa both had favored the same interset, growing a relationship together, and eventually became husband and wife. 

 

Philip over the years became a loving father. However, he was soon injected with a bio-chemical liquid, a serum from the Hyper Weapons Programs. Philip awakes from a long stage of unconsciousness, finding himself abandoned in an apartment building that caught on fire. He discovered the death of his wife and daughter, floating in ash. 

 

Filled with displeasure and sorrow Philip uncovers his staggering obtaining abilities to transform and manipulate earth and non-living material like substances. Much more capable of creating destruction, Philip was apprehended and framed for the murder of his own family. Destiny marked him as a "high-Powered Hyper-Human", placed in a special max super-prison called Exodus.P

After spending several years in prison he joined forces with Specter, leader of the villainous team Evolution, to break out of the heavy max facility.

 

Throughout his days of criminal activity his only option to become a member of Evolution, Phase was a name assigned to Philip from Specter as an identification. At different periods of time, Philip would be a secret member of the Unlegion. Often he would get I caught by Destiny but never captured. His plan to become human would always fail, this only increased Philip's anger becoming, an even more, stronger villain.
